Types and formats of silicon

Which silicon really works? What sets a bioavailable one apart from the rest.

Not all silicones are the same. In the natural supplement market you’ll see many products labeled as "organic silicon." But not all of them truly are: there are bamboo extracts, silicic acids, and other forms that the body barely absorbs.

01 · The 3 most common silicones on the market

Three silicones, three profiles: which is which and what each one is for

If you’ve tried silicon supplements and didn’t notice anything, it probably wasn’t bioavailable organic silicon. There are three very common silicones on the market, and they vary a lot. This is the real difference.

Silicium silicon
Bioavailable organic silicon

Silicium G7®

Silicium G7® active ingredient

The original formula by Dr. Loïc Le Ribault — the scientist who discovered that silicon could be absorbed in organic form. What sets it apart: it crosses the intestinal barrier without digestive transformation and is then mobilized directly to bones, skin, joints, and blood vessels. It’s what the body recognizes and uses.

Bamboo extract

"Silicon" from bamboo

Plant extract · Bambusa vulgaris

Bioavail. ~70%

On the label you’ll see it as "organic silicon from bamboo" — but botanically it is plant silica. It provides useful minerals, yes. Bioavailable silicon as such, no. That is an important difference to keep in mind.

Colloidal suspension

Colloidal silicon

Mineral particles in suspension

Bioavail. ~35%

Silica particles suspended in water. Only the soluble fraction is absorbed after slow hydrolysis — the rest passes through. Useful in other contexts; for building collagen, it is not the right form.

03 · What makes a silicon bioavailable

How much silicon really reaches your body?

When you read "contains X mg of silicon" on a label, what matters is not that number — it’s how much actually reaches your tissues. That’s bioavailability. Here are the 3 criteria that separate a silicon that works from one that only takes up space in the stomach.

— Key criteria

What to look for in a silicon

Three objective criteria · without getting into percentage comparisons

01 · Chemical form

Is it bioavailable?

The first thing to check: whether it is in a bioavailable form or not. A plant extract is not the same: the silicon is bound to fiber. For your body to use it, it needs bioavailable organic silicon.

02 · Clinical evidence

Studies on your product

This is where many people get confused: a general study on "silicon" is not the same as a study on your product. Ask for studies on the specific active ingredient. Silicium G7® has more than 70 published ones.

03 · Pharmacovigilance

23 years of real-world use

How many years real people have been taking it, with follow-up. 23 years with the G7® formula and zero relevant adverse effects reported. That is real clinical safety, not marketing.

"Organic" does not mean it comes from a plant. In chemistry, "organic" means it has a bond with carbon. For it to be truly bioavailable organic silicon, it has to be bonded to an organic carbon and absorbed without digestive transformation. Without that bond, it is not organic silicon — no matter what the label says.

04 · Format: liquid vs capsules

I already chose G7 organic silicon. Liquid or capsules?

You’ve already chosen Silicium G7®. Now the practical question: liquid or capsules? The active ingredient is the same. What changes is when and how your body absorbs it. Each format fits a different routine.

Oral route · liquid

Silicium G7® liquid

Daily intake · liquid active ingredient

Pure silicon in its original matrix. You drink it and it reaches you quickly — blood peak at 30-60 minutes. No odd taste, no effort. This is the recommended format when starting or if you’re noticing the signs strongly.

Ideal for
  • ✓ Starting intake
  • ✓ Over 50
  • ✓ Better absorption
Consider
  • — Less portable
  • — Requires measuring a dose

Oral route · capsules

Silicium G7® capsules

Daily intake · active ingredient in capsules

Same silicon, in a capsule with specific synergies. More gradual absorption, wider window. Ideal for maintenance, travel, or if you prefer not to measure doses every day.

Ideal for
  • ✓ Portability
  • ✓ Specific synergies
  • ✓ Maintenance
Consider
  • — Slower absorption
  • — Take with water

05 · Why Silicium G7® is different

Four elements that no other silicon on the market brings together.

There are many silicones on the market. But only one brings these four elements together at the same time. This is what sets Silicium G7® apart.

— Difference 01

Dr. Le Ribault’s formula

Formula discovered by Le Ribault in 1995 with a methyl group covalently bonded to silicon. Pioneer in its category.

— Difference 02

GMP pharmaceutical production

GMP pharmaceutical production with batch control and traceability. Every drop arrives with the same quality.

— Difference 03

EFSA Novel Food 2017/2470

European authorization as a Novel Food. Regulatory framework recognized by the EFSA, not by us.

— Difference 04

23 years of pharmacovigilance

23 years of real-world use, zero relevant adverse effects reported. 70+ published studies. That doesn’t happen by accident.

In short

If you want truly bioavailable organic silicon, many labels say so. Silicium G7® is the original — the formula from the scientist who discovered that silicon could be absorbed by the human body. Everything else came later.

06 · The product

· Frequently asked questions

What people ask us most.

Six common questions when comparing types and formats of silicon.

01What is the best type of silicon?+

The one your body absorbs and uses. That is bioavailable organic silicon — and Silicium G7® is one by design: demonstrated bioavailability in humans, EFSA Novel Food 2017/2470 authorization, and 23 years with real people. Watch out for labels that say "organic silicon" but aren’t.

02What is the difference between organic and colloidal silicon?+

Bioavailable organic silicon (Silicium G7®) is absorbed by your body directly. Colloidal silicon is mineral particles in suspension — only the soluble fraction released slowly is absorbed. For building collagen and extracellular matrix, the difference is huge.

03What about plant-based "silicones" (bamboo, other plants)?+

They provide plant silica — it’s not the same. They are good botanical supplements with their uses . But if you want to rebuild collagen, elastin, or keratin, you need bioavailable organic silicon. The "organic silicon" label in these cases can be misleading.

04What is silicon bioavailability?+

It is how much of the silicon you take actually reaches your tissues. What matters on a label is not "contains X mg of silicon," but "how much of that you absorb." And between different chemical forms, the difference can be as much as 7×.

05Is liquid better or are capsules better?+

The active ingredient is the same. Liquid: fast absorption (peak 30-60 min), recommended when starting. Capsules: come with added synergies (vitamins, minerals), more convenient for maintenance. The effective choice is to match it to your routine and timing.

06Why does Silicium G7® stand out from other organic silicones?+

Four exclusive elements: original formula by Dr. Loïc Le Ribault (1995), GMP pharmaceutical production with purity ≥ 99.5%, EFSA Novel Food 2017/2470 and 23 years of pharmacovigilance with 70+ published studies.
